When the blank page isn't the real problem

Creative blocks don’t always come from a lack of ideas. Sometimes the hardest part is choosing where to start.

Boredrawr is a free browser-based random prompt generator for drawing and doodling, with writing and free-form modes too. Choose a creative mode, set a timer and respond to one unexpected prompt.

Draw an impatient cloud. Doodle a suspicious lighthouse without lifting your pen. Write from the point of view of a sleepy toaster. Or choose Free mode and use any medium.

No account, no gallery to browse, no lengthy setup. Just a small creative exercise to get you making.

Creative momentum, not a perfect result.

Boredrawr is a free web app that generates random prompts for drawing, doodling, writing and other creative activities. It runs in your browser.

02Where does the name Boredrawr come from?

Boredrawr brings together bored, draw, and drawer. It starts with boredom and turns it into an invitation to draw. The drawer adds a playful twist: imagine opening one and pulling out an unexpected prompt. You never quite know what you’ll find—or where it might take you.

03How does the prompt generator work?

It combines an adjective, a subject and an instruction for your selected mode. Each prompt gives you a small creative task to interpret in your own way.

04Do I need drawing experience?

No. You can use Boredrawr for a quick sketch, a simple doodle, a short paragraph or an experiment in any medium.

05Can I use it for writing?

Yes. Write mode asks you to write one paragraph from the point of view of the character or object in your prompt.

06What does Free mode do?

Free mode gives you a subject without restricting the medium. You decide how to respond.

07How long is each exercise?

You can choose 15, 30 or 45 seconds, 1 minute or 3 minutes. You can also finish before the timer ends.

08Is Boredrawr free?

Yes. You can use the prompt generator without payment or an account.

09Does Boredrawr save my work?

Boredrawr does not record your drawings or writing. It stores a completion count in your browser on the device you use.
